Thousands flock to Food Festival in Eversley Cross
29th August 2013: More than 2000 food lovers popped into their local The Chequers at Eversley Cross over the Bank Holiday weekend to take part in the pub’s first ever great British Food & Drink Festival, tucking into a fantastic selection of delicious locally produced Hampshire fare.
The pub took advantage of the long holiday weekend to stage a three day event dedicated to putting good local food and drink on the map. The Chequers teamed up with fellow foodies from the award-winning Eversley Centre Stores, John Hartle and Gill Lewis, to lay on a delectable array of local produce from all corners of Hampshire in a celebration of good things to eat and drink.
More than a dozen local growers, producers and brewers lined up to display and sell their wares at a special local produce market organised by Eversley Centre Stores, whilst the pub hosted hands-on food and drink demos and tastings, to keep food and drink fans of all ages entertained, fed and watered. There was also live music and fun activities for the children as well as a sell-out Great British Menu inspired dinner made with great local produce on the Saturday night.
“We are thrilled to bits with the success of our first ever British food & drink festival, which was a lovely event shared by so many passionate foodies, that even the great British weather couldn’t spoil,” says The Chequers manager Jordan Marr.
“There was a brilliant turn-out; our garden and car parks were overflowing with amazing local food and drink producers and also happy eaters and drinkers, munching away on treats like Barkham Blue cheeses, jams, chutneys and home-made cakes and supping locally brewed beers and ciders from Andwells, Ascot Ales and Hogs Back brewery.
