The Chequers Toasts all Things Good and Local at Food Fest

August 2014: The Chequers at Eversley Cross once again went all-out to celebrate great local and British food and drink by holding The Chequers Festival at the pub on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August.

This year for the first time the entire pub was given over to a two day celebration of fantastic Hampshire fare, with a local produce market, hands-on food demos and tastings, live music and activities to feed, water and entertain foodies of all ages.

Chequers Food FestThings got going in earnest on the Saturday morning at 11am, with a local produce market filling a marquee in front of the pub. Visitors were able to try and buy from a delicious array of hand-made and artisan food and drink including Two Hoots cheeses, chutneys, cakes and preserves as well as local ales and ciders.

After making some tasty purchases, it was time to roll up the sleeves and take part in one of the fun food workshops, like learning how to make your own sausages, and for young foodies, to decorate your own fairy cakes.

Then the pub’s fish, cheese and ice cream suppliers talked about the amazing selection of fresh produce they bring daily to the pub to go onto the menu.

In the evening, the Chequers’ Gin Tour taught guests about the great range of gins the pub serve, plus how to mix the perfect G&T and lots more besides. Finally guests took their seats for dinner at the Great British Menu, a special selection of seasonal dishes created by head chef Ray Brenner.
